Biden’s Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen just made it clear how WEAK the Biden administration is when it comes to China – and it’s flat-out embarrassing.
Secretary Yellen visited Beijing last weekend and met with China’s vice premier, where her bizarre greeting to him made headlines as it was a major embarrassment for America.
The Treasury Secretary was caught on video repeatedly bowing to the Chinese official, He Lifeng, she just met. While shaking his hand, Yellen genuflected THREE times, despite the fact that Lifeng did NOT bow himself. The video shows a confused Lifeng standing there as Yellen awkwardly humiliates herself on stage.
“Never, ever, ever,” Bradley Blakeman, a top White House aide to President George W. Bush, said of the exchange. “An American official does not bow. It looks like she’s been summoned to the principal’s office, and that’s exactly the optics the Chinese love.”
Jerome Cohen, an emeritus professor at New York University and expert in Chinese law and government further said, “Bowing is not part of the accepted protocol.”
Other critics pointed out that Yellen bowed to the Chinese official because – like much of the Biden administration – she has a soft spot for the Chinese Communist Party, and she genuinely wanted to bow out of excitement.
Attorney Marina Melvin tweeted, “BTW she’s bowing to him because she genuinely wants to. It’s natural for her. She’s an obsequious commie lover.”
According to a readout offered up by the Treasury Department, Yellen’s meeting with Lifeng was to “build on” U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s “guidance to deepen engagement between key senior officials on macroeconomic issues.”
“The meeting was candid, constructive, and comprehensive,” the readout added. “While raising issues of concern, Secretary Yellen discussed the Administration’s approach to seek healthy economic competition with China, with a level playing field for American workers and businesses. They also exchanged views on global and domestic macroeconomic outlooks.”
While that may be the narrative the administration is trying to sell to the American people, Yellen’s embarrassing decision to bow repeatedly suggest that Joe Biden’s people are arguing from a position of weakness, giving China the upper hand in almost every way possible.
During an interview focused on the Beijing trip, Yellen said that the Biden administration will “take action” regarding China even if it “harms our own narrow economic interests.”
It definitely doesn’t seem like the Biden administration officials are the ones in charge of economic policy – they have handed the power and control over to the Chinese and now they’re just pretending as though that’s not the case.
