A government entity which has long been regarded as the “Worst Censorship Offender” in the U.S. gov. has FINALLY been shuttered – could this be the end of censorship we’ve all been waiting for?
The U.S. State Department, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had decided to close its “Global Engagement Center” (GEC) which was known for using American tax dollars to collude with mainstream media outlets and powerful tech companies to censor conservatives around the world.
The GEC had been set up originally to “fight foreign disinformation” but it had been completely hijacked by the radical left, and turned into a censorship weapon for the Democrat Party.
Conservative American taxpayers were HEAVILY censored by this government entity that their own tax dollars were funding!
“It is the responsibility of every government official to continuously work to preserve and protect the freedom for Americans to exercise their free speech,” Rubio said Wednesday, charging that the office worked “to actively silence and censor the voices of Americans they were supposed to be serving.”
“This is antithetical to the very principals we should be upholding and inconceivable it was taking place in America. That ends today,” he added.
Rubio further explained, “Individuals in America have been slandered, fired, charged, and even jailed for simply voicing their opinions. That is not an America our Founding Fathers would recognize. It is the responsibility of every government official to continuously work to preserve and protect the freedom for Americans to exercise their free speech.”
Rubio added that the GEC wasn’t JUST directly censoring conservatives, but that they were also siphoning money out of this program and into the pockets of the radical non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who did the bulk of the dirty work for the government in order to give our corrupt politicians plausible deniability.
Over the years, the powers at be attempted to rebrand the GEC into the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation Interference office in order to escape mounting scrutiny of what they were actually doing but it didn’t work.
“Twitter Files” journalist Matt Taibbi reported back in 2023 that the GEC was at the heart of the left’s censorship operations.
According to Taibbi, the GEC funded groups like the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, which in turn compiled blacklists of Twitter accounts which they CLAIMED were “tied to foreign disinformation campaigns” when in reality these accounts were just conservative voices marked for censorship.
In one instance, the Digital Forensic Research Lab sent Twitter a list of 40,000 accounts of being “paid employees or possibly volunteers” of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
But as it turned out, this list was “full of ordinary Americans, many with no connection to India and no clue about Indian politics,” Taibbi said.
And this was not a one off, the GEC did this sort of thing all-day every-day until they had effectively eliminated conservatives from the platform, under the guise of their opinions being “foreign disinformation.”
The GEC also reportedly worked with FBI Agent Elvis Chan – the man who ordered social media companies to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story which helped the Democrats successfully install Joe Biden as president in the 2020 election.
This death of this agency could not have come sooner.
