Congressman Greg Murphy (R-NC) put Michigan’s Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on the spot during a hearing on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Several secretaries of state were there to testify about what they are (or mostly are not) doing to ensure a secure and transparent election this November, rather than a repeat of the sh*t show that happened in 2020.
When Murphy asked Benson whether she was doing anything to remove tens of thousands of dead voters from her state’s rolls, he couldn’t get a straight answer out of her. Benson got smarmy, and Murphy got hot under the collar.
The exchange happened during a Committee on House Administration hearing. Rep. Murphy brought up the fact that the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) had to sue Benson to try to get her to remove 26,000 dead voters from Michigan’s voter rolls. Benson condescendingly replied that the case was dismissed.
The reality is that PILF is now appealing the case to the US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. PILF argues that the judge did not make a determination as to whether Benson is making a “reasonable effort” to get all the dead voters off the rolls.
As we’ve mentioned earlier this year, Michigan is going to be the most difficult state in 2024 for President Donald Trump to overcome all the election fraud that the Democrats will attempt. Detroit has a population of 4.3 million people. City clerks are required to hire equal numbers of election observers and poll watchers for Republicans and Democrats. As of the end of August, Michigan had hired 2,337 Democrat poll watchers but only 310 Republicans.
They’ve hired seven times as many Democrat observers compared to GOP observers. That cannot be a mistake. It’s purposeful. Remember, Michigan was the state in 2020 where they kicked all the Republican observers out of the ballot counting rooms and taped cardboard up over the windows. Donald Trump was winning Michigan by more than 100,000 votes over Joe Biden when they stopped the count on election night. After they fetched enough fraudulent ballots to change the result, Biden ended up with a 150,000-vote lead.
We need legal observers in all the swing states in order to prevent a repeat of the 2020 election. Michigan is working to prevent the GOP from having enough observers. There are currently 202 precincts across Detroit that have zero Republican observers assigned to them.
The RNC has filed a lawsuit to try to force Secretary Benson and the rest of the clerks in Michigan to follow the law and provide equal numbers of Republican observers. In Detroit, the county GOP submitted the names of 675 volunteers to be observers. The city clerk only chose 52 of them. The lawsuit is asking the Wayne County Circuit Court to intervene and force the city clerks to obey the state’s election laws.
Congressman Murphy, for his part, has remained one of the unsung heroes for election integrity in our country ever since the 2020 election was stolen. Murphy was one of the House Republicans who objected to the certification of Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin’s electoral votes. He was planning to vote against certifying the election on January 6, 2021, until after each swing state had adjudicated their election results and ruled out fraud, or held do-over elections to get a more accurate result. We all know what happened next on January 6th.
As Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had assembled a stack of approximately 4,000 pages of signed affidavits to present to the joint session of Congress that day, Ray Epps whispered in the ear of a guy in a MAGA cap outside the Capitol. That man then proceeded to rush the barricades and assault police officers. Congress was then evacuated before Cruz could enter the 4,000 pages into the congressional record. The certification was rushed through a few hours later, after the “fedsurrection” had concluded.
Rep. Greg Murphy is one of the few House Republicans who still insists to this day that something went very wrong on election day in 2020. Here was his exchange with the Michigan Secretary of State this week.
