Harvard Professor Gets a Slap on the Wrist from the Government After Spying for China

It’s been a week for blast-from-the-past news stories. First, Democrat megadonor and serial killer Ed Buck is back in the news with his appeal trial. Now the Harvard mad pumpkin scientist is back! Former Harvard chemistry Chair Charles Lieber was handed down his “sentence” for spying for the Wuhan University up until COVID showed up.

He was arrested by the Trump administration during the crackdown on Chinese spies who had infiltrated American universities. We wrote about him three years ago when it was first discovered he was spying for China. But since Joe Biden isn’t concerned about people spying for China for some reason, the mad pumpkin scientist got a slap on the wrist.

Lieber’s arrest back in early 2020 was one of the weirdest things to happen back in the early days of the pandemic. The timing of the arrest, and Lieber’s specialized knowledge in nanotechnology, chemistry and chemical biology caused us to do some wild, but not completely crazy, speculating. We wondered if Lieber was actually part of the team that helped create COVID-19.

We still don’t have any answers to that.

Lieber is the world’s leading expert on nanotechnology—the creation of teeny-tiny robots that are too small to be seen with the human eye. Remember back when people were becoming magnetic after getting injected with the COVID shots? One of Lieber’s research partners was the CEO of Moderna. They worked together on a project to develop tiny nanotechnology robots that can be injected into people via vaccines.

Seriously, there’s not enough tinfoil available for my hat when I write about this guy.

Lieber also likes to grow giant pumpkins as his hobby, hence the “mad pumpkin scientist” nickname.

Anyway, when the Trump administration arrested Lieber, the DOJ made it sound very clearly like he was spying for the Chinese and passing sensitive, top-secret research to spooks at the Wuhan University. The Communist Chinese Party recruited Lieber for that nation’s “Thousand Talents Project,” a project in which the Chi-Coms were bribing prominent American college professors and scientists in order to steal their research. He started working for the Chinese, while still working at Harvard, in 2011 and never stopped until the Trump administration caught him nine years later, right as the coronavirus was landing on America’s shores.

The Chinese government gave Charles Lieber an office at Wuhan University and paid for trips to China for Lieber and his wife. They also paid him a Hunter Biden-level salary of $50,000 per month. That works out to $5.4 million over the nine years that Lieber was secretly working for China, all of which he stashed in foreign bank accounts. The BBC reported that Lieber was frequently paid by Chinese agents who would pass him a brown paper bag stuffed with $100 bills.

So that sounds legit.

Lieber did not report the Chinese income on his taxes, which is why he was stashing it overseas. He also failed to disclose to Harvard or to the US government that he was working for the Communist Chinese Party. When the feds arrested him in 2020, Lieber lied to them about the money, the office in China, the job with Wuhan University, and his foreign bank accounts at first.

Lieber received his big “sentence” this week from U.S. Senior District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel. Judge Zobel is a Jimmy Carter appointee and a Harvard alumnus.

She sentenced the Harvard professor Charles Lieber to time served in prison, which was the two days that he sat in jail when he was first arrested. She also ordered him to pay a $50,000 fine to the US government, and to pay $36,000 to the IRS.

The guy was working for the Chinese government for nine years, and who knows how much sensitive research he passed to them in that time. In the end, the Biden administration treated him like a guy who made a mistake on his taxes.

The same Justice Department that just threw a peaceful January 6 protester in prison for 18 years for misdemeanor trespassing, doesn’t even send a Harvard professor to jail for a single day for spying for China for 9 years.

Does anyone still believe that Joe Biden is not bought-and-paid-for by China?

As the final cherry on top of this story, Harvard never fired Lieber after he was arrested, and did not even revoke his tenure. The mad pumpkin scientist was allowed to retire earlier this year with his full pension.

  1. Running out of civilized words acceptable here to describe my feelings about this and so many other things associated with our government and the current maladministration.
    So disturbing……

    1. Boy do I agree with you! He committed treason! The death penalty has been ordered for less here! The only BENEFIT he didn’t get handed to him was an extra bonus from Biden, so Biden could be given a nod of approval (and smirked at) by Biden’s mentor Xi ! He truly is Xi’s toy.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE. Our current Administration keeps proving how they fail every day. They’ll probably try harder yet to make up something to falsely charge and incarcerate Trump for, to penalize him for having this guy arrested to begin with! Grrrrr

  2. Educators again?!! Seems they place themselves above the schmucks out here in dopesville. This hubristic un-American is little different from the elementary school teachers who shovel woke garbage at babies. He earns far more than public school teachers but attitudes are the same. I’d bet Harvard adorns its faculty with many like him and is lavishly repaid by parents of undergrads.
