Looks like somebody forgot to bribe a judge! Hunter Biden walked into court Wednesday looking supremely confident. He had a little swagger in his step and a little white powder on his nostrils.
Why wouldn’t he feel extra confident? This was one of the first times in history when both the defense attorneys and the prosecution were doing everything they could to ensure that a suspect serves no jail time.
Unfortunately for international man of mystery Hunter Biden, the judge didn’t get the memo.
This plea deal was a joke. In exchange for pleading guilty to gun and tax charges, Hunter Biden will serve no jail time. This is a slap in the face of the American people, especially since the Department of Justice wants to execute Donald Trump on treason charges after he badly embarrassed permanent Washington.
“No one is above the law! See?! Look how hard we’re going after Hunter Biden!”
The judge was simply to oversee the sweeping, blanket plea deal that would have let Hunter Biden off the hook for accepting bribes on his dad’s behalf, narcotics trafficking, sex trafficking, and failing to fill out the proper paperwork under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). He’d get off scot-free for all the crimes on the Laptop from Hell.
The judge took one look at that and threw the plea deal out the window. Judge Maryellen Noreika thought it was absurd that Hunter Biden should get blanket immunity for all his other crimes that are being investigated.
She specifically asked about the FARA investigation into Hunter Biden’s dealings, in which he was paid $83,000 a month for a no-show board position with Burisma in Ukraine. When the prosecutors said he wasn’t going to be charged with that, the judge tossed the deal.
Both sides agreed to a more limited plea deal in which Hunter can be charged with future crimes. The judge said she’s still not ready to accept the deal as-is, so she ordered both sides to submit additional briefs. Instead of pleading guilty and getting off scot-free for everything, Hunter ended up pleading not guilty.
Judge Noreika was appointed by President Trump, by the way. That didn’t have anything to do with her roughing up the defense team during the hearing. Hunter’s attorneys learned that the night before the hearing. Get a load of this…
House Republicans filed an amicus brief with the court the night before the hearing. The House Oversight Committee and Ways & Means Committee Republicans wanted to let Judge Noreika know that they had found additional criminal evidence against Hunter Biden, and they were therefore opposed to her accepting the plea deal.
The amicus brief was filed by a congressional staffer named Theodore Kittila late Tuesday afternoon.
Immediately after that, a lawyer named Jessica Bengels contacted the court. She’s a member of Hunter Biden’s defense team and works for the firm Latham and Watkins. Bengels pretended to be working with Theodore Kittila and convinced the court clerk that Congress had “changed its mind” and wanted the amicus brief removed. The clerk removed it.
Mr. Kittila found out and called the clerk back to figure out what was going on. Kittila then confronted Hunter Biden’s shady lawyers, and the judge was furious.
Judge Noreika wrote in an emergency judgment, “It appears that the caller misrepresented her identity and who she worked for in an attempt to improperly convince the Clerk’s Office to remove the amicus materials from the docket.”
She gave the defense team until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening to “SHOW CAUSE as to why sanctions should not be considered for misrepresentations to the court.”
Jessica Bengels submitted an affidavit claiming that it must have been a miscommunication between clerks that caused the amicus brief to be removed. It totally wasn’t because she impersonated a congressional staffer in a dirty trick to try to get evidence withheld from the judge!
It remains to be seen whether Judge Noreika will sanction Hunter’s dirty lawyers, but this is a terrible sign for him and the case against him. It’s never a good idea to make the judge angry in such a contentious case, especially early on like this.
Poor Hunter! He’s probably getting nervous. Maybe he should check his stash in the White House. He might need something to calm himself down.
