The people of New York can rest easy tonight. Their Attorney General, Letitia James, has reassured the public that she is not corrupt and she did not commit multiple instances of federal mortgage fraud in New York and Virginia. She’s not a crook. She’s just a terrible lawyer! That’s her argument!
The story gets even funnier from there, though. Letitia James has hired Hunter Biden’s lawyer to serve as her criminal defense attorney—even though she’s not been charged with any crimes yet. Because that’s what innocent people do, right?
Abbe Lowell has been hired to defend Letitia James. He’s the attorney who represented Hunter Biden during his trials on federal gun and tax crimes. Lowell works for the Winston & Strawn LLP law firm in New York.
Here’s where it starts to get really obnoxious. Letitia James has not retained Lowell with her own personal money, which would seem fair and normal. The New York Attorney General’s Office has retained Lowell to defend Letitia. She’s spending taxpayer money to defend herself after the Trump administration referred her to the Justice Department for “alleged” mortgage fraud claims.
Letitia purchased two homes in Virginia in 2023. She affirmed on the mortgage papers for both of those homes that they would each be her “primary residence,” to secure lower interest rates on the loans. The mortgage papers are public documents and her signature is right there on both of them, legally affirming that each home was to be her “primary residence.”
The problem with that, aside from being a crime, is that under New York State law, Letitia James has to live in New York. She can’t live out-of-state. If either one of those homes was her primary residence, then she technically vacated the office of New York Attorney General before she even launched her bogus lawsuit against President Trump. If she didn’t vacate the office, then she committed a crime on each of the mortgages. Because these purchases happened across state lines, it’s federal.
James also purchased a home in New York with her dad, in which they signed documents claiming that they were husband and wife. She’s also facing accusations that she lied multiple times on the mortgage paperwork for a multi-family rental property in New York. In a five-unit rental property that she purchased, she signed paperwork claiming it had fewer units so she could access a special federal mortgage rate program from Fannie and Freddie.
All of these are blatant examples of mortgage fraud. She signed her name to falsified records to get better interest rates on properties. Oh, and each of those “primary” residences that she bought in Virginia? The Daily Caller sent a reporter to both of them. She doesn’t live in either home. She’s renting them out to other people.
For any New Yorkers who are worried about this growing scandal with their Attorney General, they can rest easy. Letitia James has a good explanation for why all this happened, which she has now publicly announced after she hired Hunter Biden’s lawyer.
These were mistakes.
So, Letitia James is not some criminal who falsified the records on every property that she’s ever purchased. She’s just a really, really bad lawyer!
You can’t expect someone who is the Attorney General of one of our largest states to read all them big WORDS on a piece of paper before she signs them! That would be exhausting! All of those crappy realtors that she dealt with on every purchase must have tricked her!
Letitia’s new taxpayer-funded defense lawyer Abbe Lowell charges $855 an hour for his services. Lowell served as counsel for House Democrats in the 1990s during Bill Clinton’s impeachment. He also served as the defense attorney for Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards when he was paying his “baby mama” with campaign funds, and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) during his first bribery and corruption trial in 2017. Anytime a Democrat gets into serious legal trouble, they hire this guy.
Maybe it’s just a waste of time and taxpayer money for Letitia James to lawyer up. We still haven’t seen any indication that US Attorney General Pam Bondi is going to follow up on James’s criminal referral. Maybe Bondi will finally surprise us after she finishes going over those Jeffrey Epstein files that are sitting on her desk.
