Most (legal) American citizens are unaware of this, but when illegal aliens crossing the border are “unaccompanied minors” and caught by the Border Patrol, they are not sent back to the country they came from. Rather, they are placed in a home and designated a sponsor in our country.
It’s injury upon insult, as so many American citizens- born and raised in this country, expecting the protection of their government- are competing for jobs with undocumented migrants, and failing that, are standing in line with undocumented migrants for the benefits of increasingly strained social safety net programs.
But, the exception for undocumented children is just one of the many reasons the U.S. is such a great attraction for illegal immigration. Currently, our government is being run by bureaucrats, so anxious to earn brownie points with liberals, that they place a premium on the welfare of non-citizens that trumps the welfare of the natural born citizens who pay their salaries.
The rules that make things like this possible are so absurd that citizens could hardly believe them, much less understand them in total. However, would be border crossers in Central and South America certainly do know how easy it is to slip into the United States and take advantage of our generous welfare state and liberal created social programs.
For over six years now, conservative news outlets have reported that more than 227,151 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors have been placed inside the United States- and are being subsidized by the American tax payer.
Many of these under supervised children and teens lack the language skills and the cultural knowledge to fit in and be productive members of American society. Many of these youths are hard pressed to avoid being drawn into brutal criminal street gangs that are driving much of the crime in America.
Consider the situation in the state of New York. According to Fox News, “In June of 2015, members of MS-13 and Salvadoran immigrants were charged with the rape of a teenage girl at a golf course.” This is not an isolated indecent, and this kind of crime has been a part of the largely successful Stop and Frisk program which was shot down by democrats.
MS-13 is an infamous Central American gang known for its extreme brutality which has now gained a firm foothold in the United States as a result of the ill-conceived “compassion” of elected Democrats and excessively corporate friendly Republicans.
The Department of Public Safety Gang Threat Assessment in Texas has found that the MS-13 gang is over 800 members strong in Texas alone. They also report that the DPS “is directly responsible for the influx of unaccompanied immigrant minors finding placement in the state’s welfare system.”
Their Threat Assessment stated, “The massive inflow of illegal aliens as well as current, and soon to be, gang members crossing the Mexican/American border into the state of Texas in 2014, along with many detailed reports of extremely brutal murders committed by gang members in the greater metropolitan Houston and surrounding areas, has made the MS-13 gang, alone, one of the most important threats to the state of Texas for the following year.”
Andrea Helling, a spokesperson for the Dept. of Health and Human Services, remains unmoved by these gang invasions, their crimes, and the threat they pose to law abiding citizens. She says, “Our responsibility is to provide a safe space for these refuge-seeking children.”
We wonder if someone else might be responsible for these children. Might the families they come from and the South American states that produce them be responsible for the welfare of these children?
Experts like Helling don’t think so. She, and so many like her believe that it is up to the American tax payer to bear the financial burden as well as the existential burden of accepting, housing, and supporting potential violent criminals.
Still, Texas and New York aren’t the only parts of the country laboring under this kind of burden- the growing drain on the welfare state as well as swelling gang membership. MS-13 is also active in the states of Virginia and Maryland. Fairfax County Maryland, which shares a border with Washington, D.C. has seen a 167% increase in violent incidents related to the MS-13 gang over that of the year before.
There’s little doubt that Hispanic gang leaders are amazed at the generosity of Uncle Sam, who is providing the capital and the personnel for their criminal organization absolutely free of charge. We are amazed as well, but for the same reason.
