Let’s be honest: Many of us (present company included) were worried that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was going to be a cute little federal agency that would cut spending a minor amount and then become embedded in Washington, DC’s permanent bureaucracy.
DOGE has now exceeded our expectations in every possible way. Things that had seemed impossible five weeks ago now seem very much achievable, including the eventual elimination of income taxes.
As just one example, the ritzy real estate market in and around DC is now collapsing because of the DOGE cuts.
Before anyone feels an ounce of sympathy for the people being forced to sell their pricey homes around DC, you should understand that these people paid for their homes with your tax dollars.
Organizations like USAID and the National Endowment for the Arts exist on federal funding that they dole out sparingly through grant money spent on things that sound nice on the surface. The reality is that most of the money is paid in 6- or even 7-figure salaries to people connected to the corruption machine in DC.
Now the funding for those organizations is getting cut off in several of the most affluent zip codes in the United States. DC suburbs like Bethesda and Arlington have extravagant home prices because the people there are wealthy and you are paying for it. This is despite the fact that these wealthy people around DC produce nothing and have no skills.
They don’t manufacture anything. They either work for the federal government or an NGO (or their spouse does), and either lobby the federal government with your tax dollars (which puts money back in the corrupt politicians’ pockets) or sell things to the government—all on your dime.
Let’s take a look at some of the mass firings that DOGE has led to in the past few days and over the next few days.
The Department of Homeland Security let 400 people go. The CDC is firing 1,300 employees, most of whom live in the DC area. The Interior Department fired 2,300 probationary employees. HHS is expected to fire around 5,000 workers. And the IRS is expected to fire at least 9,000 workers sometime this week.
To put this in perspective, a couple living in DC who is in on the scam can easily pull in a combined salary in the $600,000 to $750,000 range.
They also receive many perks as part of their employment as well. If the NGO wants to hold a conference in the Bahamas or the French Riviera, they pay all the travel expenses for that couple. The adult children of these couples then start a conference-organizing business and get paid by the NGO as well.
Want to get a $100,000 speaking fee at one of these conferences? Just be nice to Jim and Nancy Smith, who are both on the board of the Ponies and Cupcakes for Blind Children in Burkina Faso Relief Agency (PCBCBFRA), funded by USAID or some other federal entity.
These people are living like zillionaires on your tax dollars, despite having no discernible skills. They couldn’t get jobs in the most bloated HR department in Indianapolis if they had to fend for themselves.
Many people in DC grew up in households that were fully funded by this scam over the last 30+ years. And now those poor babies are being forced to sell their luxury homes because the gravy train has been hit by the DOGE train.
According to Zillow, the housing market in the DC area has around 5,000 new listings that have all popped up in the last month. That includes Washington, DC, Bethesda, Arlington, Chevy Chase, and Alexandria.
The Arlington and Alexandria home markets are going to explode even further, especially after DOGE and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth take a buzzsaw to Pentagon funding.
The DC housing market is going to collapse and many of these grifters will have to sell their homes at massive losses. The problem is that there aren’t any real jobs in the DC area unless you work for or adjacent to the corrupt federal government. No one moving to the area is going to be able to afford the current $562,000 median home price.
It’s going to get even uglier before this is over—and it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of Kamala Harris voters.
