Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is a special kind of creepy and corrupt. He always has been. Ever since he was first appointed to the US Senate in 2006, he’s been allegedly taking bribes and allowing donors to shower him with cash, lavish trips, and—allegedly—underage girls. The dude is like the Jeffrey Epstein of the US Senate.
The last time he was indicted was in 2015, and he actually beat the rap. It really makes you wonder why “they” are trying to take Menendez out now, on charges that pale in comparison to his last brush with the law. Someone more important must really want that US Senate seat.
Menendez and his current wife have been charged with taking bribes in exchange for political favors. He was the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee but stepped down following the indictment. Menendez and his new wife allegedly had $480,000 in cash stuffed in hidey-holes all over the house, along with what the media has sensationalized as “$100,000 in gold bars.”
Most people don’t know the exchange rate, but that’s basically around 57 ounces of gold today—or less than 4 pounds. So, the guy’s not exactly Scrooge McDuck swimming around in a vault of gold. The Daily Mail keeps calling him “Gold Bar Bob.” Anyway, that part is blown a bit out of proportion. Crooked Joe Biden probably looks at Menendez’s paltry $580,000 in bribery gifts and thinks, “Amateur!”
The bribes Senator Menendez has allegedly taken this time probably do look like child’s play to guys like Mitch McConnell. But that pales in comparison to the last time Menendez was in trouble with the law and managed to beat the rap.
Immediately after Menendez was appointed to the Senate in 2006, a wealthy donor named Salomon Melgen glommed onto him. Melgen showered Menendez with campaign contributions totaling $750,000. In exchange for the cash—and other favors which we’ll get to—Menendez did major political favors for Melgen.
The US Customs and Border Protection was sending shipping container monitoring equipment to the Dominican Republic. Menendez tried to stop the deal, because it would have cut into Melgen’s multimillion-dollar gig providing exclusive cargo-screening services at the island’s ports. Menendez also had his staff work with the State Department to get six of Melgen’s very young girlfriends visas to the US.
According to the 2015 indictment, “Menendez solicited and accepted things of value, including domestic and international flights, first class domestic airfare, use of a Caribbean villa, access to an exclusive Dominican resort, a stay at a luxury hotel in Paris, expensive meals, golf outings and tens of thousands of dollars in contributions to a legal defense fund.”
Even though they had him dead to rights on all that stuff, the FBI strangely never charged Menendez with the creepiest of the things he was accused of doing. Multiple media outlets confirmed that when Menendez would fly to the Dominican Republic to Melgen’s private resort, he would provide the US Senator with orgies with underage prostitutes.
This isn’t speculation. The New York Post flew to the Dominican Republic and interviewed one of the child prostitutes who had “partied” with “Bobby.” The girl had pictures of herself with Menendez on Melgen’s boat. Melgen was always surrounded by underage girls, when he wasn’t hanging out with his own wife and kids.
Like we said, Menendez was engaged in Jeffrey Epstein-like levels of creepiness. A United States Senator was receiving gifts from one of his donors in the form of private flights to a foreign country, expensive resort stays, and orgies with child prostitutes.
The FBI never charged Menendez with any crimes related to child prostitutes, even though the girls were perfectly willing to talk to the media about it. They’d have probably testified against him. Those crimes seem way worse than all the cash bribes that Menendez allegedly took, but he wasn’t even charged with the sex crimes.
Menendez beat the rap in 2015 and remained in the US Senate. Now that he’s been charged again, he is refusing to resign and has announced that he’s running for reelection next year. He seems to think he’s going to beat the charges again this time. Maybe he will, who knows? But given the levels of corruption that take place in DC that the FBI ignores all the time, it makes you wonder who Menendez angered this time.
