Everyone is buzzing after Rolling Stone published some comments from an anonymous source that President Donald J. Trump is planning to launch his 2024 campaign from Florida sometime in July. While it wouldn’t be unheard of for a candidate to announce they’re running for president this early, it doesn’t seem like that’s what is happening. Rolling Stone’s anonymous source claims to be quoting President Trump as he bashes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. So, it could be just another fake news hit piece designed to drive a wedge between the two of them. Which is it?
The rumors reported by Rolling Stone say that President Trump is planning a massive Florida rally near the Governor’s mansion (in Tallahassee) sometime in July, and that Trump is doing it to show DeSantis “who the boss is.” It already sounds like of like a bunch of hooey, doesn’t it? It’s not like there’s some holiday that Donald Trump appreciates in July where he would set off a ton of fireworks, right?
The “anonymous source” told Rolling Stone this:
“One time that he did bring up the Florida [launch] scenario was quickly followed by him commenting on how terrible DeSantis was at public speaking and commanding an audience … [and that he’s] lacking in so much charisma and he’s so boring that Florida Republicans would leave Ron immediately for Trump [in a 2024 match-up].”
Think back to all of the “anonymous sources” during the Trump presidency who turned out to be total frauds and liars. It was pretty much all of them!
We’ve known for a while that people on the left including the Lincoln Project have been trying to get Trump and DeSantis to fight with each other. This benefits the Democrat Party and does nothing good for either Trump or DeSantis right now.
First let’s pick this statement apart a little bit.
Would Trump really say that Ron DeSantis is “terrible” at “public speaking and commanding an audience?” I kind of doubt it.
DeSantis is not a bad public speaker at all. In fact, he’s pretty good at the one thing in particular that made everyone fall in love with Donald Trump. DeSantis runs circles around the media and makes them all look like a bunch of dopes. As for commanding an audience, when was the last time that Ron DeSantis held a rally? It was back in 2018 and he was running for Governor of Florida. DeSantis hasn’t held rallies since then because he’s been busy running one of the largest states in the country – and running it well.
DeSantis has done such a great job of running Florida that Republican voters have pretty much already anointed him as Donald Trump’s successor. He’s the only GOP leader in the country who consistently wins praise from Republicans nationally. And here’s the key thing: In almost every poll in which Trump and DeSantis are compared for the 2024 election, Trump wins by double digits. That’s not a slight on DeSantis. It just means that if Donald Trump runs again in 2024, we’re sending him back to the White House no matter who his primary opponents are. If Trump doesn’t run again, DeSantis looks increasingly like the one GOP leader who we would elect to pick up the MAGA torch.
Is DeSantis “lacking in charisma” and “boring” as the anonymous source claims? Not at all. I haven’t met a single person who thinks that. Elon Musk “endorsed” Ron DeSantis for president in 2024 last week. DeSantis replied that the only thing he’s focused on right now is winning his 2022 reelection, but that “We welcome the support of African Americans!”
So, he’s got plenty of charisma. As for “boring,” who is the first Republican governor that always steps into the fray in order to push back against the Biden regime’s woke, repulsive and unconstitutional agenda? That would be the Governor of Florida, obviously.
Everything about this Rolling Stone report seems like fake news, therefore. If Trump is scouting for a place to launch a big fireworks show right now, it’s likely for the Fourth of July which is one of his favorite holidays. He’ll probably invite DeSantis. This is not to say that there won’t eventually be a clash between Trump and DeSantis. Maybe there will be. But it’s not going to happen before the 2022 midterms because both of them are smarter than that.
