Some Republicans are pushing for President Donald Trump to pursue a third-term in 2028. As you might suspect, this controversial idea has the left LOSING THEIR MINDS.
A group of MAGA Republicans referring to themselves as the “Third Term Project” have proposed that Congress amend the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, which currently limits president to two terms.
The constitutional revision would allow for a president to be elected up to three times, so long as their prior terms were non-consecutive. President Trump is the only living president to have served two non-consecutive terms.
This project, spearheaded by Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN), suggests that Trump is a generational leader, needed to reverse generations of harm caused by prior politicians.
Rep. Ogles originally brought forward the idea in January when he introduced the resolution to amend the constitution. “This amendment would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs,” Ogles said at the time.
There certainly is some precedent for this.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt served four terms (1933 – 1945) and he became immensely popular as he was credited with leading the U.S. out of the Great Depression. The 22nd amendment was actually ratified in 1951, after FDR died in his fourth term.
More recently (and much more illegally) you have President Barack Obama who served two consecutive terms from 2008 – 2016 and then used the empty vessel that is President Joe Biden to run a shadow presidency via from 2020-2024.
At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), former White House Chief Strategist Steven Bannon ENRAGED the liberals by promoting the idea of Trump serving a third term.
“They’re running around asking, ‘What’s the future of MAGA? What’s 2028?’” he said of the media’s response to the new administration. “We’re not about 2028—we’re about today, tomorrow, the next day. That’s how we won,” Bannon said.
“So, media, you don’t need to ask me. I’ll tell you now: the future of America is MAGA, and the future of MAGA is Donald J. Trump. We want Trump in ’28. That’s why they can’t stand him. A man like Trump comes along once or twice in a country’s history,” he added, leading the crowd in chants of, “We want Trump!”
As you might expect, the thought of ANOTHER four years of President Trump has Democrat heads spinning and they’ve reacted (predictably so) by screaming about him being a “dictator.”
But despite the gain in support for the amendment proposed by the Three Term Project, it faces some significant hurdles in Congress because it requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate, followed by ratification by 38 states.
Even if that does by some miracle happen, President Trump would still have to actually win a third term. While polls show he is incredibly popular right now, it’s unclear whether or not Americans would actually support him serving a third term at the age of 82-years-old.
What do you think? Would you support President Trump serving a third-term?
