The Biden administration announced last week it will not allow Fourth of July fireworks at Mount Rushmore due to COVID-19 restrictions. It appears China’s influence is once again taking priority over America’s freedoms.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has vowed to fight to allow Americans to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks at Mount Rushmore. Former President Donald Trump outraged liberals when he attended a fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore in 2020.
In contrast, President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 speech last week noted that if we’re lucky, Americans might be able to join for a small backyard barbeque.
“If we do all this, if we do our part, if we do this together, by July the 4th, there’s a good chance you, your families and friends, will be able to get together in your backyard or in your neighborhood and have a cookout or a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day,” Biden stated. “That doesn’t mean large events with lots of people together, but it does mean small groups will be able to get together.”
The president added, “After this long hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation, but we begin to mark our independence from this virus.”
So basically, we’ll be able to do what many Americans have already been doing since last July. Thanks for the intel.
And like everything else, the left claims it’s Trump’s fault we can’t celebrate. Herbert Frost, the National Parks Service regional director, said in a letter that it is “only prudent to make plans based on the best available science and public health guidance available today.”
Frost added, “Potential risks to the park itself and to the health and safety of employees and visitors associated with the fireworks demonstration continue to be a concern and are still being evaluated as a result of the 2020 event.”
Noem isn’t satisfied with a small group. Prior to the 2020 celebration, she stated, “There is no better place to celebrate America’s birthday than Mount Rushmore,” Noem said. “The majestic figures of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln provide a terrific backdrop for the fireworks, and we appreciate all the work President Trump and his team at the Department of the Interior have done to make this celebration possible again for the country.”
Others have joined her in support. Rep. Dusty Johnson, along with Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds, all from South Dakota, condemned the president’s lack of patriotism.
“Let’s be clear, this decision is political, not evidence-based,” they said in a letter reported by Todd Starnes. “President Biden just said himself that Americans can safely gather by July 4 — what’s changed in a day,” they wrote in a letter. “Last year millions watched the celebration in awe, and it’s a shame the administration is denying Americans that opportunity this year.”
In a year when unity and patriotism are deeply needed, Biden has an opportunity. Will he place American freedoms first, or will he continue to bow to China’s virus and the left’s influence? The response will help reveal whether he is more concerned about the nation he leads or those who fund his leadership.
