President Joe Biden has reportedly returned to Camp David after he delivered a speech on Monday at the White House regarding the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban.
Biden’s speech was scheduled for Monday at 3:45 p.m. His departure for Camp David was scheduled for 4:50 p.m.
According to Fox News, “After speaking for approximately twenty minutes, Biden left without taking any questions from reporters. The White House then announced that Biden would return promptly to Camp David.”
The news frustrated White House reporters, as well as lawmakers who took the action as further evidence the president is refusing to lead during a critical moment.
Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton criticized Biden’s inaction on Sunday, tweeting, “Why is Joe Biden in hiding? He should immediately address the nation and answer for the catastrophic situation in Afghanistan. Conference calls between cabinet secretaries and senators don’t cut it in a crisis.”
Texas Republican Rep. Vicente Gonzalez also tweeted, “There’s no way to hide it. The situation in Afghanistan is another shame on this admin. ”
Imagine if a Republican handled the situation like Biden did. Every headline across the nation would blast the administration as bad leadership and lack of compassion for the people of Afghanistan. Biden’s foreign policy experience was one of his selling points during his 2020 campaign. However, that selling point doesn’t seem to be working out well for Biden now.
In just seven months, the president has taken a nation secured by America’s military for two decades and handed it over to terrorists. Worse, he has put numerous American lives at risk in the country, while at the same time flying out many Afghani leaders who may end up living in the U.S. If they receive the same “vetting” as Biden’s policies along the southern border, who knows what could happen?
Many have argued Biden’s presidency resembles a second term of former President Jimmy Carter. Biden’s latest actions seem to further strengthen the argument. His Afghanistan failure looks like Carter’s Iran failure plus Saigon combined. The fact that he simply gave a speech and returned to vacation shows the worst may still be ahead, as there appear to be no plans to improve the situation.
There’s a reason “25th Amendment” was trending on Twitter on Monday. The president’s abandonment of leadership as commander-in-chief is so weak that it appears he needs replaced. Expect the calls for impeachment to increase as the conditions deteriorate regarding Afghanistan, the southern border, inflation and other key issues.
There’s no way to hide it. The situation in Afghanistan is another shame on this admin. Withdrawal was never going to be easy but it didn’t need to come to this. The US must do everything in its power to help our partners & allies to safety & protect our national security.
Biden’s actions on Afghanistan show he has little concern over the trouble his decisions have caused. Further, many wonder what else he may be hiding as he quickly returns to his getaway at Camp David.
