San Francisco, NYC Target Conservatives with Travel Bans

Resist and obstruct Democrats condemned President Trump’s travel ban to protect U.S. citizens from terrorists, but they have implemented restrictions of their own targeting conservative Americans.

It should come as no surprise that New York and San Francisco— perhaps the two most radical liberal-run cities in the country — have moved against everyday people who don’t agree with their twisted “values.” Liberal extremists want abortion on demand and have pushed through laws that open the door to murdering infants who survive birth.

While killing in the name of “women’s rights” makes upside-down sense to far-left Democrats, they are also cracking down on citizens who are licensed to carry firearms ability to travel. Unlike President Trump, they are quickly discovering that their travel bans are neither lawful, constitutional, or morally correct.

New York City recently lost an appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge that places rigid restrictions on licensed gun owners who wish to travel with their firearms. A city ordinance restricted gun owners to carry firearms only from their primary residence to a shooting range and back home. The NRA challenged these restrictions, and New York City officials who knew the regulation was unconstitutional already, backtracked immediately. They tried to loosen the travel ban slightly to sidestep the lawsuit.

“The Supreme Court saw through New York City’s blatant attempt to evade judicial review in this important case,” NRA-ILA Executive Director Jason Ouimet reportedly said following the win. “This case presents a national opportunity to confirm a simple truth that New York City politicians refuse to accept: Our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is fundamental, and it doesn’t vanish when we exit our homes.”

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to hear the case — NYSRPA, et al v. the City of New York — in December, and the conservative bloc of justices is expected to strike down the NYC travel ban and give NYC government officials a firm dressing down over it. Possibly opening up the door for those law abiding gun owners who were temporarily affected by the law to file grievances against the city.

On the West Coast, San Francisco liberals also tried to subvert the Second Amendment by blacklisting companies that do business with the NRA. When the NRA and like-minded individuals stood their ground, the San Francisco politicians immediately backed down. But that retreat hasn’t stopped them from targeting conservative pro-life states.

“Just as we restricted spending with states that have laws that discriminate against LGBTQ people, we are standing up against states that put women’s health at risk and that are actively working to limit reproductive freedoms,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed reportedly stated. “By limiting travel and contracting with certain states, we are sending a clear message to states that disregard the right to abortion.”

The blacklisted states include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

With the exception of Massachusetts, these states are predominately Republican-majority states and have made growing commitments to protecting the lives of unborn children by restricting abortions after 13 and 24 weeks. Pennsylvania is reportedly poised to pass a “heartbeat” law.

San Francisco’s government will not allow its officials to use tax revenue to travel to these states in what amounts to a government-imposed travel ban. Mayor Breed is also pushing for additional policies that restrict spending in states with reasonable or pro-life laws.

It’s clearly hypocritical to call President Trump’s travel ban targeting Islamic terrorists immoral and then implement similar policies against Americans who lean right politically.

What makes these leftists policies even more ridiculous are things such as San Francisco failing to address that homeless crisis on its city streets, or the fact criminals shot more than 500 people in New York City through July. Perhaps it’s helpful that law-abiding residents are vulnerable because their guns are locked up at home.
