Colorado Schools Forced to Close as Teachers Take Off to Participate in Anti-Trump Protests

In Colorado, school’s out—not because of snow, not because of a power outage, but because teachers decided they’d rather attend an anti-Trump, anti-ICE protest than show up and teach your kids. That’s right, at least two school districts—Aurora Public Schools and Adams County School District 14—shut down their classrooms on January 30 because they couldn’t find enough teachers willing to clock in. Why? Because a bunch of them apparently had a hot date with a protest against federal immigration enforcement and President Donald Trump.

Let’s be clear here: this wasn’t some spontaneous sick-out. This was part of a coordinated left-wing tantrum called “National Shutdown Day,” where activists urged Americans to skip work, skip school, and stop spending money to make a point about immigration. Well, congratulations—they made a point, all right. They showed us exactly where their priorities lie, and it’s not with our kids.

Aurora school officials didn’t even bother trying to pretend this was anything other than a political stunt. In a letter to parents, they admitted the district would be “understaffed” and said they’d make up the missed day on February 6. That was supposed to be a professional development day, but apparently, the real professional development these teachers are after involves waving signs and hashtagging #AbolishICE on social media.

And what does the Colorado Education Association have to say about all this? President Kevin Vick applauded the teachers for their “conviction in their beliefs” and their “passion for speaking out.” He even encouraged educators to wear blue or post in solidarity. But here’s the kicker—he stopped just short of actually calling for a mass walkout. Because deep down, even he knows this is a reckless way to run a school system.

This isn’t just isolated to Colorado. We’re seeing a disturbing pattern of public educators and government employees using their taxpayer-funded positions to push far-left politics. In West Virginia, a librarian was arrested after allegedly posting terroristic threats against President Trump. In Chicago, a public school librarian reportedly shared a “hit list” of conservative journalists. And in Indiana, a school worker was placed on leave simply for posting “GO ICE” on Facebook—because apparently supporting law enforcement now puts a target on your back.

What’s most insulting is the double standard. Left-wing educators can skip work to protest, post vile things on social media, and still keep their jobs. But if you dare to support your country, back law enforcement, or wear a MAGA hat, you’re treated like a criminal. That’s not equality. That’s ideological bullying, plain and simple.

Parents in Colorado had to scramble for childcare and rearrange work schedules because their kids’ teachers decided politics was more important than the classroom. Some schools, like Boulder Valley School District, tried to power through despite a quarter of teachers calling out, but even then, they offered excused absences to students who skipped. The message couldn’t be clearer: playing political games is more important than education.

This is what happens when you let radical politics infect the school system. It stops being about reading, writing, and arithmetic and turns into a taxpayer-funded protest machine. These schools aren’t just failing to educate—they’re actively undermining the values that keep this country together.

If you’re a parent, now’s the time to ask yourself: who’s really shaping your child’s worldview? Is it someone who shows up to work ready to teach, or someone who ditches the classroom to shout slogans in the street?

We need to get back to basics—teaching kids how to think, not what to think. And if these teachers can’t separate their politics from their profession, maybe it’s time they find a new line of work.
