Trump Just Crushed Gavin Newsom’s Green New Deal and His Presidential Hopes

Tampa, Florida – July 31, 2018: President Donald Trump addresses his supporters at a rally in Tampa, Florida, on July 31, 2018.

President Donald Trump just proved once again that he is truly a president for all Americans. Including the crazy ones setting Teslas on fire.

Trump signed an executive order to rescue the residents of Vermont, New York, California, and other blue states from the insane global warming policies of their leaders. The president specifically singled out those states and metaphorically punched California Governor Gavin Newsom right in the ding-a-ling.

The result of the order is that it strips away the ability of blue states to set national energy policy—which is a national security risk—through stupid rules related to the fake problem of global warming.

The order is titled, “Protecting American Energy from State Overreach.” It instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify all state-level laws that are crippling American energy production. Bondi is ordered to seek out global warming laws “that are or may be unconstitutional, preempted by Federal law, or otherwise unenforceable.”

It specifically targets laws related to global warming, “environmental, social, and governance” initiatives, “environmental justice,” carbon emissions, and funds to collect carbon penalties or carbon taxes. Trump very specifically goes after California’s cap-and-trade BS.

California sets impossible caps on the amount of carbon (the molecule of life) that businesses are allowed to emit. Businesses are then forced to pay huge sums to “trade” carbon credits to meet the impossible carbon caps. Cap-and-trade adds 42 cents to the price of every gallon of gasoline in California.

While the rest of the country is already enjoying lower gas prices because of President Trump’s policies, Californians are being financially crippled because of Gavin Newsom. Gas prices nationally have fallen to less than $3 a gallon on average. But not in California! Prices there have gone up by nearly 50 cents a gallon since Trump took office.

Gas prices are going to get even worse for Californians by the end of 2025. Phillips 66 has finally thrown in the towel because of Newsom’s insane environmental standards. The company is shutting down its refinery in Los Angeles County, which has been producing gasoline for more than 100 years. California is becoming such a failed state that it’ll have to start importing gasoline by the end of this year, driving prices up even further.

No one in California ever voted for this nonsense, by the way. The cap-and-trade and other BS is established by a state agency full of unelected bureaucrats. The lunatics in California’s legislature just go along with it, as if the dictates from the California Air Resources Board are somehow legitimate. (That’s how “democracy” works with Democrats in charge.)

The small number of Republicans in the California legislature rightly point out that Gavin Newsom’s Green New Deal policies are the leading driver in the state’s cost of living crisis.

“From driving to work to cooling your home to feeding your family, Democrats’ cap-and-trade scheme has made every part of life more expensive,” stated Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher (R-East Nicolaus).

Californian voters—who are mostly Republicans outside of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento—are painfully aware of these problems. It costs over $1,000 a month to heat their homes in the winter and to cool them in the summer. All because of policies put in place and enforced by Gavin Newsom.

If President Trump manages to drive down energy and housing costs in California, it could very well result in Republicans finally wresting control away from the Democrat supermajority in the legislature. The voters see that Americans in every other state are enjoying lower gas and food prices right now. If Trump can provide the same relief to Californians, New Yorkers, and Vermonters, it will go a long way toward solidifying JD Vance’s election in 2028.

Gavin Newsom may be a ridiculous fool and a political nepotism baby, but Republicans shouldn’t underestimate him when it comes to 2028. Despite his phony plastic demeanor, Democrat voters are enamored with him.

This showdown over energy prices will give the voters a nice contrast between the America First policies of President Trump and the destructive, anti-human policies of Newsom. It’s about time the federal government stepped in and rescued Californians from their own government.
