Behind the Scenes: How Mike Pence Betrayed America on January 6

Leftwing media nerds just can’t help themselves. They absolutely must brag about how they stole democracy out from under the voters in 2020. Remember that Time Magazine article from a few months ago? The press openly bragged about how a “shadowy cabal” of tech oligarchs, billionaires and lawyers “fortified” the 2020 election to prevent Donald Trump’s landslide reelection. Now they’ve done it again. Politico is bragging about how Mike Pence betrayed America on January 6, 2021. And they boast of how Pence personally orchestrated that betrayal.

January 6, of course, was the day when the vice president was to count the electoral college votes and certify the winner of the 2020 election. But the 2020 election was chock-full of problems. Blatant fraud took place right on camera in front of the voters’ eyes in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Maine, Virginia, Rhode Island… and the list goes on and on.

Joe Biden made up a 1 million-vote deficit in Pennsylvania after they kept counting the votes for four days after the election. Really? 115,252 voters who were registered to vote in 1918 (making them all at least 124 years old) voted in Wisconsin in 2020. Really? Arizona had at least 15,000 counterfeit ballots that were printed on the wrong paper stock. Really? And Joe Biden “won” legitimately?

Please.

We all knew that the 2020 election was stolen. January 6 was approaching and a solution to stop the certification was needed. A member of Trump’s legal team named John Eastman came up with a solution. If you look up Eastman today, you’ll find hundreds of thousands of articles about how he is a conspiracy nut, coup plotter, insurrectionist and quack lawyer that no one should listen to. However, if you read anything that was written about John Eastman’s 30-year legal career prior to January 6, 2021, every single article describes him as a “brilliant legal scholar.” He’s been on the shortlist for the Supreme Court for every Republican president dating back to Bush Senior.

Eastman came up with the strategy to Stop the Steal at the counting of the electoral college votes. Arizona, for example, sent dueling slates of electors to Washington that day – 11 Republicans and 11 Democrats. All of the swing states where blatant cheating took place did that. Eastman argued that under the Electoral College Act, the vice president has plenary power to reject electors in states where the outcome of the election was uncertain. The vice president could simply send those electors back to Arizona or Georgia or wherever until the fraud issues were resolved and an accurate winner was declared. And if the states were unable to resolve the issues and come up with a true winner, the vote then goes to Congress where each state gets one vote (which would have resulted in Trump’s reelection).

Trump’s legal team, led by Eastman, presented this foolproof and legal plan to Mike Pence in early January of 2021 (around January 4th). This presented a huge problem for Mike Pence for two reasons. First, Pence hates Donald Trump with the hot-hot hate of 10,000 suns, much like the rest of The Swamp. Second, Pence had no legal argument to rebut or reject Eastman’s plan.

Pence dispatched his lawyer to find a legal excuse to reject Eastman’s brilliant, legal and constitutional plan. Pence’s lawyer at the time was Richard Cullen, who is now serving as chief legal counsel to newly-election Governor Glenn Youngkin in Virginia. (As George Carlin once said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it!”)

Cullen turned to a retired judge in Colorado named J. Michael Luttig. Cullen phoned Luttig, according to Politico, and asked if he had read Eastman’s strategy. Luttig said no. Cullen begged Luttig to come up with a legal opinion rebutting Eastman’s strategy and to issue it as a public statement on Twitter.

The retired judge didn’t even know how to use Twitter. He had to call his son and ask him for help on how to set up an account and how send tweets. Once he got that figured out, Luttig tweeted a half-hearted argument claiming that the vice president’s duties during the electoral college vote count are merely ministerial – the VP has no power otherwise. It was a weak argument, but the judge sent his argument out in a series of tweets anyway. Keep in mind that Judge Luttig had never used Twitter before and had exactly zero followers.

The New York Times and other news outlets immediately reported on Luttig’s “brilliant” rebuttal of the Eastman strategy. And the next day, Mike Pence copied Luttig’s weak argument word-for-word in an op-ed explaining why, on January 6, he would not be rejecting any electoral votes from stolen states.

What a coward! Pence had NO LEGITIMATE RESPONSE to the Eastman strategy. So, he dispatched his lawyer to get an opinion from a guy who had never used the Eastman strategy and who didn’t know how to use Twitter. And despite having zero followers on Twitter, the entire news media found his Twitter feed and started quoting him. (Because Pence’s lawyers were sure to leak the existence of Luttig’s opinion to the press.)

Pence orchestrated the entire betrayal in order to try to save face for not doing his duty as Vice President. Pence is now planning to run for president in 2024. Please run, Mr. Pence! We can’t wait to see Donald Trump humiliate you the way that he did Jeb! Bush.
