As Americans continue to struggle just to make ends meet, President Joe Biden is celebrating, claiming that his disastrous economic policy is “showing results.”
Consumer prices continued to rise – as they have for much of Biden’s presidency – but the president seemed to think that was something worth rejoicing over.
The Labor Department’s consumer price index rose by 0.4 percent from September. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is up 7.7 percent year-over-year.
Included in that number is food prices, which rose 0.4 percent in October, which is less than the 0.7 percent increase in August and September, but still an increase, nevertheless.
As the Democrats usually do, Biden took this news and attempted to convince the public that it was actually a GOOD thing that they were paying more for food.
“Today’s report shows that we are making progress on bringing inflation down, without giving up all of the progress we have made on economic growth and job creation,” Biden said in a statement from the White House. “My economic plan is showing results, and the American people can see that we are facing global economic challenges from a position of strength.”
Biden claimed that because this inflation number wasn’t as large as previous months, it somehow provided “a much-needed break in inflation at the grocery store as we head into the holidays.”
It’s unclear what “break” Biden is referring to, however, as Turkey prices are expected to surge ahead of Thanksgiving and many families are being forced to consider skipping the celebration all together – citing prices that are just too high.
The issue spans far beyond just food prices. Consumers have been hit hard by elevated fuel prices which are currently roughly 60% higher than they were when the president took office in January of 2021.
Biden’s ‘solution’ for that has been draining the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to historically low levels, and many anticipate that when that release ends, fuel prices in America will soar out of control.
It’s worth noting that Biden’s messaging on the issue of inflation has changed drastically in the past year alone, marking a shift from the Democrat’s insistence that rampant inflation was “temporary” and nothing to worry about.
Biden has also recently admitted that he “can’t guarantee that we’re going to be able to get rid of inflation.”
“We’re driving down all of those costs,” he said, though the very inflation numbers he bragged about would beg to differ, indicating prices continue to rise.
Biden has proposed more government spending as a solution to the inflation that was caused by his massive Inflation Reduction Act. If his plan is to make life more difficult on Americans, then absolutely, his plan is working.
