Ever since COVID gave the Democrats a taste of true authoritarian power, they have been obsessed with finding any excuse to embrace their inner tyrant. Leftists in one New York county have found a new way to control the people and put themselves at the top of the pyramid.
Erie County has announced a new travel ban on their citizens which will go into effect whenever a state emergency or other “catastrophe” is declared.
The idea is that something like a winter storm would grant them the ability to make it illegal for people to leave their homes under the guise of “public safety” – sound familiar?
But fear not! The benevolent Democrat overlords are willing to let “essential workers” travel to and from work… so long as they apply for the proper paperwork.
To do this, citizens will be forced to use a “travel exemption portal” in order to apply for a temporary “movement pass.”
Before you think this must be a joke, let me assure you, this is real.
“The travel exemption portal will define specific categories of workers using a tiered concept to identify who would be exempt from a travel ban in order to commute to and from their place of employment,” a local news release said.
Erie county defines essential workers as law enforcement, first responders, healthcare workers, civil servants, farmers, and construction workers but they intend to review that list annually and employers are expected to provide the government with “status updates” regarding the employees who are actually “essential.”
“The list of essential employees will be reviewed annually and employers will be asked to provide updates when an essential employee’s work status changes for any reason that warrants removal from the exemption list,” the news release continued.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, a far-left radical known for his hatred of President Donald Trump, promised HEAVY punishments for citizens who defied the county’s travel bans, reiterating again that these bans are not just for a “major weather event,” but also “some other type of catastrophe.”
“Under the New York Public Officers Law, no one may travel except personnel deemed essential during the emergency,” he declared while vowing to send law enforcement after any individual who is caught moving around without the proper paperwork – welcome to Nazi Germany.
Poloncarz also scoffed at critics who expressed concern about this level of government overreach.
“I’m enjoying the replies from out-of-state trolls to my posts about who are essential personnel authorized to drive during a snowstorm travel ban. Here’s the deal, since you hate government so much, don’t call 911 after getting stuck and demand we save your sorry patriot butts,” he wrote.
It’s worth noting that Poloncarz was ALSO a HEAVY COVID tyrant who enforced mask mandates well into 2022 and even established a hotline for residents to snitch on their neighbors who were violating his draconian COVID protocols.
Leftists like Poloncarz have seriously struggled to return to the pre-COVID norms after getting a taste of the power it granted them.
This is not the first post-COVID power grab and history tells us it certainly won’t be the last!

The Seventh Amendment extends the right to a jury trial in Federal civil cases.
The Eighth Amendment bars excessive bail and fines and cruel and unusual punishment.
The Ninth Amendment states that listing specific rights in the Constitution does not mean that people do not have other rights that have not been spelled out.
The Tenth Amendment says that the Federal Government only has those powers delegated in the Constitution. If it isn’t listed, it belongs to the states or to the people.

I live in that area and sometimes the snowstorms are really bad and the roads are so clogged up with snowed in cars that the emergency personnel can’t get around them. And the snow plows can’t work.
So it’s one or two days out of the year big friggin deal. I’d rather stay home with a ban, then be forced to travel to work in that god awful weather & risk my life for a “job”.
I don’t agree with all the politicians policies around here, but that one makes a lot of sense when you’re in the middle of a snow event.
