Trump Attacking Cruz on “Birther” in Hopes of Winning Iowa

Donald Trump has emerged as the Republican front runner in national polls, but in Iowa, where the presidential campaign truly kicks off, Ted Cruz holds a slight lead. Many political pundits do believe Trump will have a stronger turnout than current numbers indicate as there is a growing minority of voters who support Mr. Trump, but don’t want to receive the apparent backlash of friends, family and the world of social media content on bashing all things Donald.

While it is yet to be determined how large of an “invisible” voter turnout Trump might experience, he is taking no chances, so he has turned up the heat on his allegations as to whether or not Ted Cruz can actually run for office in the United States.

What is the matter with Ted Cruz’s ability to run for President of the United States? He is not a nationally born citizen. His mother gave birth to Ted in Canada. Now, Mr. Cruz is an American citizen, which is not in question. As his mother is an American citizen, the birth of a subsequent child outside of the country is still considered a citizen. However, Donald Trump has called into question different legality issues to his running potential. Other powerful Republican figureheads, including Arizona Senator John McCain believes it is an important question to have a finite ruling on.

With the intensified “birther” attacks on Mr. Cruz, Donald is stating he wants the United States court system to rule on the legality of Ted Cruz’s ability to run for president. As Trump states, he believes it best to have a clear understanding of it, as the last thing the party needs is for Cruz to win the Republican nomination, then be disqualified from running for office when Democrats bring up the issue (which would almost surely happen). Such a situation would prove disastrous for the Republican party as it would be forced to scramble with a new candidate, costing the party countless weeks (if not longer) before the national election.

Currently, according to the Washington Times, Ted Cruz does lead Donald Trump by four percent in the most recent Iowa poling. Mr. Trump has indicated he feels confident he can win the Republican presidential nomination even if he does not secure Iowa, thanks to his sizeable lead in other states.

However, beyond the potential issue with Ted Cruz and his Canadian birth, Donald understands he is the nearest competitor long term. None of the other Republican candidates have made much noise against him. Jeb Bush, a candidate most believed to have a strong potential at competing for the nomination, has not received much in way of traction. It is possible his time out of politics has hindered his chances.

So, as a legal, natural citizen of the United States, why is all of this suddenly turning into a major issue for Ted Cruz? Many individuals do believe Ted is a “natural born citizen” due to his mother being an American citizen. However, a growing number of Republicans do say it is a question that needs a definitive answer. Of course, many Democrats believed Donald Trump unfairly went after Obama and his stance of being a United States citizen both during and after the previous presidential elections.

This, to the very least, shows Donald Trump is not playing sides and will call out anyone he believes may have a legal issue when it comes to holding the most powerful presidential office in the world.

Senator Rand Paul out of Kentucky pointed out that, should Ted win the presidential election, he would be the first president not born within the United States, so that alone would prove to be a very interesting situation.

It does not look as if Mr. Cruz is going to seek out any sort of legal clarification anytime soon. He has dismissed the legality of the question and brushed it aside every time a reporter has asked about the situation. He undoubtedly did look into the legal issues associated for running for president before running for president and believed there wouldn’t be any kind of problem.

In terms of sheer financial wiggle room and potential, if any of the candidates are able to bring up lawsuits against Mr. Cruz regarding the situation, it would be Donald Trump, or an arm of Donald Trump’s campaign. So, only time will tell as to what, if anything will come out of the “birther” situation.
