The Republican billionaire donor class that has resented and feared Donald Trump for many years has finally come to a grudging conclusion. They either need to get with the program and become members of MAGA, or they’re just going to end up in the gulag with the rest of us next year anyway.
Many of them came around over the weekend. President Trump just had the largest political fundraising haul in human history. This proves, once again, that 2024 is NOT going to be a repeat of the fake and stolen 2020 election.
Many of us probably started to feel a bit nervous two weekends ago when the Democrats somehow raised $25 million for Diaper Joe in a star-studded event. No matter what you think of them, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are still rockstars when it comes to Democrat Party fundraising. Their name carries a lot of weight in communist and globalist circles, so they drew in an impressive amount of support for Biden. It’s a bit scary when you think about it.
For a bit of perspective on this whole political fundraising thing, think back to the 2008 campaign. That was the first time that a political campaign embraced the internet as part of its fundraising model. Barack Obama outraised John McCain by a significant amount.
Since Republican political consultants have never been the sharpest tools in the shed, their big takeaway from that lesson was, “We’d better stay away from that internet thing!”
By the time 2012 rolled around, some of the older GOP consultants had retired and there were a few of us “young guns” that were starting to enter the fundraising realm. I wrote a few fundraising pitches and web commercials for the crew that conducted the very first “Ron Paul Money Bomb” during the Republican primary. It was still very much our grandfathers’ Republican Party at the time. Their prevailing sentiment was:
“Republican voters will never embrace those infernal internet tubes for campaigns! Our horse and buggy will carry us to the finish line!”
Then we raised $2 million in that first Money Bomb, and it changed everything. It took us an entire weekend to pull it off and the money came entirely from small donors. We blew Barack Obama’s biggest fundraising haul to date out of the water. We thought we were hot ****. And we were for the time.
But Donald Trump… he raised $50.5 million over the weekend in Florida. Tickets to the event were $250,000. Tickets to sit at the same table as President Trump were $814,000 apiece. Melania was by his side in a tropical pink jumpsuit. She still looks like she’s only 30.
How does this prove that 2024 is not going to be a repeat of 2020?
The wealthy, jet-setting GOP types never did anything like this for Donald Trump in 2016 or 2020. These types rarely invest in anything that would move the culture war to the right. They always want to know what their ROI is going to be, and they tend to be very stingy with their cash.
It’s funny when you think about it because most wealthy people expect a political donation to be a pay-to-play situation. Everyone who gave money to Diaper Joe over the previous weekend expects favors and the White House will deliver if they somehow win the election. The rich Republicans donating to Trump over the weekend won’t get anything back. This was a kiss-the-ring-while-you-still-have-time event. Their only ROI will be when we Make America Great Again.
The other big takeaway from this is that the RNC has been completely reformed since the ouster of Ronna McDaniel. The event over the weekend was a joint RNC-Trump campaign event. Now that Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara (Eric’s wife) is the co-chair and enforcer at the RNC, it is singularly focused on reelecting President Trump and getting MAGA Republicans elected to the House and Senate.
The turnaround at the RNC has been nothing short of remarkable. It raised more than $65 million in March and just helped Trump raise $50.5 million over the weekend. The RNC is suing dozens of states over their dirty voter rolls and they’re hiring attorneys to sit in every counting room on Election Night. 2024 is NOT going to be a repeat of 2020.
Glad to see that the RNC is making noticeable progress now that Ronna is out. Good to know about the attorneys assigned to the counting rooms too.
