The True Hypocrisy of the Liberal Statue War

The progressives have wholeheartedly embraced lawlessness in their attempt to get rid of “racist” statues in America. Even if they were right and all of their targets were intolerable racists, the efforts do absolutely nothing to change racial problems in the country. It’s entirely symbolic and every bit as stupid as anything else they champion. In that spirit, let’s take a look at a few of the progressives’ favorite heroes and see how they stand up to modern scrutiny.

Margaret Sanger

Progressives herald Margaret Sanger as the original champion of reproductive rights. According to them, she is the reason women aren’t the sole sexual property of men, and her cause was and is the highest moral calling towards which one can aspire.

In reality, she was an open and fierce supporter of eugenics. The progressives will say that she wasn’t racist because she prioritized financial status over race when trying to decide who had the right to bear offspring, but she still wanted to see procreation regulation of anyone she deemed unfit. The majority of Americans who fell into her criteria were clear racial minorities.

In other words, she was really a pioneer of veiled racism. Just to give you an idea of her impact. The current number of black Americans today is around 40 million. Thanks to Sanger’s efforts, more than 19 million African American babies have been aborted since 1973. That’s half the current population. But sure. She wasn’t a racist.

Susan B. Anthony

Here’s another progressive hero who “has to be viewed through historical context.” Famous for her works towards women’s suffrage, Anthony is excused for her overt racism because she publicly denounced lynching (as did the majority of racists of the era).

Anthony originally aligned with anti-slavery coalitions to try and get more firepower behind her own movement, but when the 15th Amendment was passed, her true colors showed. She abandoned the former slaves who failed to get her what she wanted and went on to say, “I will cut off this right arm of mine before I will ever work or demand the ballot for the Negro.” The progressives will make excuses, but there is no question that she viewed dark skin as a sign of racial inferiority.

Hugo Black

This one is honestly baffling. Sure, Black was the primary Supreme Court Justice that helped the New Deal pass, but he doesn’t hold up to any progressive values. He was an admitted member of the KKK, championed the rights of businesses and business owners, fought vehemently against any notion of a right to privacy and upheld Japanese internment during WWII. Apparently, all of this is just fine as long as you let a few social programs slip through the Supreme Court.

Cesar Chavez

Now we come to the big name in labor unions. Chavez first organized the day laborers of America’s produce sector, and his famous slogan was even adopted by Obama during his first campaign (Yes we can was originally in Spanish). It’s easy to see why the progressives love him and named a bunch of schools after him. That is, until you look at his views and actions in regards to immigration.

Chavez is actually the person who popularized the term “wetbacks” in an attempt to dehumanize undocumented immigrants. He went as far as to hire members of his own union to threaten, bully and assault immigrants who were believed to be here unlawfully. It turns out that he had more in common with modern-day Minutemen than with the progressive agenda.

As is always the case, applying simple logic highlights the problem. Applying modern morality to historical times never works for anyone. By the progressives’ entirely ridiculous standards, literally every human who has ever lived was or is racist and deserves to be beaten in the streets. If we take a step back from the fever pitch hysteria, maybe we can take a moment and realize that important figures of the past were as human as any of us today. We don’t memorialize them because they were perfect. Instead, we mark the impact they had on society and their own era to see what we can learn about ourselves and our own situation. Then again, try telling that to a progressive.
