Democratic Socialist Candidate under Fire for Calling “White Working Class” Residents “Racists”

In liberal circles, the number of people who are racist is enlarging at breakneck speed. In fact, some Democrats have seemingly concluded that all white people should now be considered this offensive term.

Recently, Sara Innamorato, a Democratic Socialist running for a seat in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives, labeled her would-be constituents “white working class poor folk who are racist” according to TheBlaze.

KDKA-TV reported Innamorato is now under fire for her incendiary remarks. The Democratic Socialist defeated long-time incumbent Representative Dom Costa in the Democratic primary. Because she’s running unopposed for the 21st district seat, Innamorato was all but assured a victory on election night. If elected, she’d serve a two-year term.

However, the remarks she made about her would-be constituents on a podcast are spurring some to take action. During the program, the leftist said, “I just look at my district, right? And it’s 93 percent white. My district, which I know is like white working-class poor folk who are racist, because it’s so much easier for them to look to their side and say, ‘I’m going to blame that person.’”

Due to her disdainful comments about the people who live in her district, a Republican resident, Gary Britcher, has organized a bipartisan write-in campaign for Costa. He told KDKA-TV, “We are not racist, and I don’t think we should send someone to Harrisburg that has that mindset that her constituents are racist.”

Commenting to WPXI 11 News, Britcher stated, “I think that Dom Costa would be a better, is a better representative.” The incumbent Innamorato defeated in the Democratic primary wasn’t impressed by her comments either. Costa informed KDKA-TV, “I find it appalling … they are not that type of people.”

While he claims he has no involvement in the write-in campaign, Costa said he would welcome the vote. He remarked, “I find it humbling, very humbling that people want to.”

Innamorato declined to sit down for an interview with KDKA-TV. But, she did send the television station a statement concerning her comments alleging her would-be constituents are “racist” In the statement, she said, “This was the topic of a nearly two-hour-long conversation about race and politics on the podcast, and in no way did I seek to imply that all of my neighbors are racist. Hate begets hate, understanding begets understanding. I’m willing to have a conversation with any of my future constituents about this topic of race, and I will do anything in my power to make sure that the 21st District and beyond is a welcoming place for all.”

The Democratic Socialist expressed to WOPXI 11 News that she didn’t intend to insult the residents of her district and now wishes she would have articulated her thoughts better. Innamorato stated, “Racism, classism, misogyny, bigotry exist in America, it exists in PA, it exists in our backyard, and oftentimes those types of bigotry aren’t rooted in hatred against that group, but rather people working really hard and feeling they can’t get ahead.”

The candidate revealed that she hopes she and community leaders can use her discourse as a spark-plug for discussion. The Democratic Socialist said, “We’ve been talking like, great, this seems like something we could be having a conversation about, so let’s organize town halls, let’s have listening sessions. Let’s make sure we’re out in front of this and hearing people’s experience so that we can actually design policy and legislation that works.”

Sadly, Innamorato’s unbelievably offensive comments about her own would-be constituents are becoming increasingly mainstream in the Democratic Party. Just last week, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly’s morning show on NBC was canceled because she talked about how dressing up as a character of a different race for Halloween was okay when she was a kid. Immediately, the left labeled Kelly as a racist. In an opinion piece for USA Today, former Fox News contributor Kirsten Powers heaped insults on Kelly.

In her closing remarks, Powers even seemed to confer that her own whiteness has contributed to racism on her part. She said, “Lord knows that I am far from perfect on the issue of race. I cringe at things I’ve said in the past and especially at how long it took me to grasp the concept of institutional racism. But I’m making the effort to inform myself and grow and learn from people who know more about this issue than I do.”

Regrettably, real racism continues to exist in this country. But, Democrats, desperate to keep minorities in their tent, are marginalizing it with their repeated, blanket, and unfounded accusations.
