Nancy Pelosi to U.S. Senate: We are not sending these sacred Articles of Impeachment to you until you can guarantee a fair and unbiased hearing.
Mitch McConnell to Nancy Pelosi: You had your turn. Send them or don’t. We adults call the shots in the Senate.
In the meantime, Democrat minority leader Chuck Schumer knows a loser when he sees it, and those two articles have loss written all over them. Schumer wants to hear more. How about calling in some of the President’s advisors? Isn’t there some telephone evidence somewhere that somehow adds just a bit more credibility to that pack of losers Adam Schiff vetted, coached, and used for ventriloquist dummies during his sham hearings?
As the Democrats yip and ankle bite around the edges, Mitch McConnell in probably one of his most powerful speeches needled the Democrat “puffocrats” most skillfully:
About the Democrats hurry to get the impeachment done:
“[Democrats] pushed through a slapdash investigation. They decided not to bother with the standard legal processes for pursuing witnesses and evidence…”
Now, apparently, Nancy wants the Senate to fix that. It’s not going to happen. The Democrats are just going to have to live with their sloppy job. Wanting a do-over in the Senate won’t add lipstick to their pig.
About the Democrats whining about Republican partisanship.
Characterizing Pelosi’s demands to mold the Senate trial as phony, McConnell observed, “Their turn is over. They have done enough damage. It’s the Senate’s turn now — to render sober judgment as the framers envisioned…”
McConnell emphasized that by the Senate’s own rules, they cannot hold a trial without the articles: “But if they ever muster the courage to stand behind their slapdash work product and transmit their articles to the Senate, it will be time for the United States Senate to fulfill our founding purpose.”
What the Democrats majority in the House have done here, said McConnell, is “let ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ develop into the kind of dangerous partisan fever that our founding fathers were afraid of.”
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, weighed in like an 800-pound gorilla. Observing that it is simply ridiculous for Pelosi to hijack the articles to extort the Senate and get a trial to her liking. Senator Graham has other ideas:
“If she continues to refuse to send the articles as required by the Constitution, I would work with Senator McConnell to change the rules of the Senate so we could start the trial without her, if necessary.”
How quickly would he do that? “If we don’t get the articles this week, then we need to take matters in our own hands and change the rules — deem them to be delivered to the Senate so we can start the trial. We’ll invite the House over to participate if they would like. If they don’t come, we’ll dismiss the case and get on with governing the country.”
Yes, Nancy, the Senate can actually do that. They are the sole authority. You should pay attention here, Madam Speaker. The Senate is about to roll right over you and consign your sham impeachment to the trash heap of history where it truly belongs.
Finally, President Trump added his bullseye tweet: “The reason they are not sending the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate is that they are so weak and pathetic…The great Scam continues.”
