The message from the lying enemy-of-the-people media was near universal last week: Donald Trump is a loser and his power and influence over the GOP are waning because he can’t even get an obvious shoo-in like Kevin McCarthy elected House Speaker, because his own insurrection trainees now hate him.
When it comes to Trump and the lying media, we always have to wait a couple of days for the dust to settle before we can ever tell what actually happened. Let’s take a closer look at what we now know REALLY happened.
But first, here’s a sampling of what some of the lying Democrat media outlets were saying last week as McCarthy was forced to go through 15 votes before becoming Speaker of the House.
Politico wrote, “Trump’s spell over GOP breaks with McCarthy meltdown.”
A leftwing rag called The Conversation wrote, “House speaker election: fight over Kevin McCarthy’s leadership has exposed limits of Trump’s power.”
And the news network that has disappointingly become rabid anti-Trumpers, known as Fox News, wrote this: “Trump’s inability to lift Kevin McCarthy in speaker race leaves media asking, ‘What power does he really have?’”
What power indeed, Fox News? Side note: If it weren’t for Tucker Carlson, I don’t think I’d ever have a reason to turn Fox News on these days. When Sean Hannity was testifying in his deposition in the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against Fox, Hannity testified that he never believed the 2020 election was stolen “for one second.”
Ugh. Hannity has just gone downhill ever since Mr. Conservative Values got caught by his wife having an affair with morning host Ainsley Earhardt and she divorced him. Fox News now has a tight leash on Hannity, since he needs his salary to keep up the exorbitant support payments that the court awarded his ex-wife. (In case anyone was wondering what’s wrong with Hannity these days.)
Meanwhile, the 20 conservative holdouts were able to get McCarthy to promise to make the most sweeping changes to how the House does business in decades – and they actually did it with Trump’s help from behind the scenes. Those changes will be incredibly impactful.
A single Representative can now call for a floor vote for the Speaker to vacate the chair if he breaks his promises to conservatives. More members of the House Freedom Caucus will now be on the powerful Rules Committee.
Bills must now be published 72 hours before they can be voted on. In one of the biggest changes that the conservatives fought for, the amendment process is now opened up again, for the first time since 2016.
Under the previous rules, the party leadership had total control over legislation, and individual Members couldn’t offer any amendments. That’s why so many massive, multi-trillion-dollar bills get rammed through so quickly. No one could shine any sunlight on the evils hidden in these massive bills until they were discovered days or weeks after it passed.
Did you know, for example, that there was a mandate in the $1.7 trillion “Omnibus” bill to put government-controlled kill switches in every vehicle by 2026? No one did, because the bill was 4,155 pages long and they voted on it in less than 24 hours. Democrats plan to try to impose a global warming mileage tax on everyone, and if you don’t pay the tax, they’ll shut your car off. Jerks.
There won’t be any new “Omnibus” bills in the 118th Congress though, because of the deal Trump brokered. Every individual Department of the federal government will now be funded through a single appropriations bill, which reduces the chance of anyone slipping absurd spending “priorities” into unrelated bills. It makes the whole process more transparent. If the public knows what’s in a bill before it is voted on, people can pick up the phone and yell at their congressman – a tactic that is actually very effective in defeating toxic legislation.
In a speech delivered Sunday night, President Trump praised both sides when it came to the fight for Speaker of the House. A lot of us don’t like McCarthy and don’t trust him completely, but we have to remember that Trump knows things the rest of us don’t. Trump also praised Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for leading the resistance and forcing McCarthy to make serious promises for changing business as usual in Washington.
Trump’s power isn’t waning, contrary to Fox News and Politico. If anything, he’s become even more of an elder statesman in the past few years than he was previously.
