Two additional House Democrats announced plans to retire following the current session of Congress, making 28 of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) party leaving after the midterms.
The two latest departures included Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA) and Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI).
“Today I am announcing that I will not seek reelection in California’s newly created 9th Congressional District,” McNerney announced on Twitter on Tuesday.
“I am honored that the citizens of California’s 9th Congressional District chose me as their representative in the past five elections, and that those in California’s previous 11th Congressional District gave me the privilege of representing them for three terms,” he added.
“I have not come to this decision lightly, but it is time for me to chart a new course, which will allow me to stay closer to home and spend more time with my family and friends. And while I don’t know what’s next for me just yet, whatever I do will always be in service of Rhode Island,” Langevin announced in an Op-Ed in the Providence Journal.
The two new announcements bring the total number of Democrats retiring or running for a new office up to a whopping 28. Polls reveal Republicans are likely to win back the majority in the House in November, removing Pelosi from her role as House Speaker, if she doesn’t retire first.
The change would also slow much of President Joe Biden’s legislation, leaving him stuck for the final two years of his first term. The change would be welcomed by conservatives, as the flipped power would stop Democrats from passing radical legislation that would destroy America.
The stalemate could set up two years of inaction as both parties dig in until the 2024 presidential election. Two major issues will then arise for Democrats.
First, Nancy Pelosi will no longer be Speaker of the House. With her out of power, the left will lose one of its dominant voices as the House leans Republican.
Second, Democrats will likely turn against President Joe Biden. Speculation already abounds regarding every possible option. Biden says he’ll run again, and even NBC News asked Vice President Kamala Harris if America would see the same ticket, wondering whether she’ll still be around if he does.
Harris herself could run if Biden does not, though Democrats realize this would not be a winning strategy. Harris’ approval ratings are as low as Joe Biden’s.
A growing scenario is also emerging where Hillary Clinton would return to campaign again for 2024. If so, a Trump vs. Clinton, the sequel could be on America’s hands for 2024, a full eight years later.
Let’s hope if it does happen that the same conclusion occurs. Most Americans are ready for Biden to go away, but not to have Clinton replace him.
The biggest question may be whether Trump will still run at all. Despite his early strong poll numbers, he has yet to commit, and some conservatives would rather see another candidate who could give the party a fresh start.
In any case, the battle will be brutal, especially if Democrats lose the House as expected. The problems continue to grow for both Biden and Pelosi as Americans seek change they are not getting from Democrats.
