U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has returned to its past catch-and-release policy to handle the recent surge of illegal immigrants along the nation’s southern border. The CBP reports the former Obama policy avoids housing illegal immigrants and accusations of “kids in cages.”
Former President Trump ended Obama’s disastrous catch-and-release policy in 2019, claiming it actually encouraged illegal immigration. The current policy only allows the CBP to hold those illegally crossing the southern border for 72 hours.
Concerns are now not only limited to immigration, but also to the spread of COVID-19. In addition to people entering the nation illegally, Americans must now also face the threat of immigrants carrying a virus that has already taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the nation.
There is no testing for COVID-19 at the border. Those caught by CBP are not tested unless they are showing symptoms of illness.
CBP Public Affairs Officer Rod Kise noted in a Fox News report, “Per longstanding practice, when long-term holding solutions aren’t possible, some migrants will be processed for removal, provided a Notice to Appear, and released into the U.S. to await a future immigration hearing. As the administration reviews the current immigration process, balancing it against the ongoing pandemic, we will continue to use all current authorities to avoid keeping individuals in a congregate setting for any length of time.”
According to National Review, the CBP is currently facing 3,000 to 3,500 illegal border crossing each day. This includes a recent capture of 11 Iranians jumping a border fence in Arizona. Most immigrants are from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, but have been documented from a wide array of nations.
Where is this change in policy leading? With the Biden administration now referring to illegal immigration as regional migration, it appears those who hop Trump’s half-finished border wall won’t be leaving anytime soon. Instead, our nation will see 3,000 or more new illegal immigrants per day enter America, or at least 4.3 MILLION people over the course of one term of the Biden administration.
That’s more people than live in many states. And maybe that’s just the plan. With statehood already in progress for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico next on the list, Democrats are developing their future pipeline of leftist voters. If these so-called Dreamers are given the right to vote, it will function at the level of another state, especially in places with massive electoral votes like Texas and California.
While many are (rightly) concerned about Biden’s dealings with China, most are missing the long-game of Democrats importing the next generation of voters to support their party. Unless conservatives can reverse or slow the flow of illegal immigrants, we may not only have a massive strain on resources, but a heavy tipping of votes toward the left that may make it difficult for Republicans to regain control in Washington for years into the future.
