Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are panicking right now. The coronavirus continues to recede. The economy is bouncing back faster than anyone dreamed. Joe Biden continues to slip in the polls and President Trump is enjoying some of his highest approval ratings ever. All of this is happening with just over 70 days left until Election day. They need a controversy very badly, so they’ve decided to delve into some of the dumbest conspiracy theories imaginable.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi manufactured a fake post office drama this week to scare voters and malign President Trump. She’s gone on every major TV network over the last few days telling people that President Trump is removing mail boxes and stealing mail trucks, all in an effort to steal the election. But like usual Pelosi and her gang of conspiracy theorists are leaving out some key facts.
Conspiracy Theory #1: Trump Is Sabotaging the Post Office to Steal the Election!
There’s so much wrong with this notion. Possibly the biggest problem is that universal mail-in voting is not something that exists. It never has and most likely it never will. It hasn’t been approved, and it’s extremely unlikely to happen by November, considering every single state would have to individually implement it, and all within the next 70 odd days.
It’s also worth noting that the USPS has warned states that it does not have the capacity to handle universal mail-in voting. They admit they do not have enough man power, enough equipment, or the infrastructure to be able to collect, mail and deliver hundreds of millions of ballots all at once.
Conspiracy Theory #2: Trump is Defunding the Post Office!
The main problem with this conspiracy theory is that the post office has enough funding to get through the year. It will not go insolvent in 2020 like Nancy Pelosi is claiming. The budget battles aren’t about funding the USPS right now. It’s about floating them for mail in voting.
Another issue arises from President Trump’s words being misconstrued by the media. They claim that he said out loud that he wants to defund the post office to stop mail-in voting. That’s a lie. What he really said is that the post office is losing money and Democrats are asking for an extra $25 billion for mail-in voting. He said that he doesn’t want to spend billions on a failing organization.
Even Obama admitted during his presidency that the Post Office was an utter failure. “FedEx and UPS are doing just fine. The Post Office is failing.
Why should Trump give an organization that’s been failing since before he came into office more money? The organization has clearly outgrown its usefulness and has not grown with the times. And nothing can been done to fix it in just 70 days to all of a sudden handle hundreds of millions of pieces of mail all at one time, when it never could before.
Conspiracy Theory #3: Mail Trucks Are Being Stolen!
This one is pretty hilarious. Celebrities were tweeting that mail trucks are being stolen by guys in red hats. They even had a picture!
The USPS handled debunking this one. They explained that sometimes mail trucks break down. When that happens, they get towed so they can be repaired. Scary stuff!
Conspiracy Theory #4: Mail Boxes Are Being Locked and Removed!
This is probably the biggest rumor floating around right now. The notion is the president Trump is secretly getting rid of mailboxes so people won’t be able to vote. This conspiracy runs into the same problem as conspiracy theory number 3. Universal mail-in voting still isn’t a thing. You can’t sabotage an election by harming the post office because they don’t run elections.
More importantly, the USPS debunked this one too. They’ve been consolidating pickup locations for about 20 years. This thing called email made letters less popular. Ever since that happened, the post office has been trying to make letter pickup more efficient. Every year, blue box locations are removed. It’s been an ongoing process for quite a bit longer than Mr. Trump has been our president.
You’ll see different variations of all of these conspiracy theories. Each is as stupid as the next. There are two things you can bring up over and over again to debunk them. You can’t sabotage voting through the USPS because we don’t have universal mail-in voting (Fauci even agreed that it’s unnecessary). Second, the USPS has been reorganizing for decades because it’s a failing organization. If you remember those points, you can see through these conspiracy theories with ease.
