Plenty of Former Presidents Have Been Compelled to Testify About Scandals

The Trump-Russian collusion conspiracy theory that the Deep State and the media perpetrated on America for more than three years can now be officially rebranded as “Obamagate.” Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell released the Flynn unmasking documents, and more docs are on the way. There’s no longer any doubt that Russian collusion was not only fake but also orchestrated from the very top. It is the single greatest political scandal in American history. So… whuy doesn’t Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) want to get to the bottom of it?

Graham chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is one of the only committees providing oversight of the intelligence community. There’s also the Senate Intelligence Committee, but it would keep everything classified until sometime after Space Force establishes a permanent base on Mars, so there’s no point in expecting accountability from there. Graham has an opportunity to shed sunlight on the most infuriating scandal that’s ever happened in Washington, DC.

The Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign starting in December of 2015. Yeah, do the math on that one. Four months before Donald Trump started to run away with the GOP nomination in 2016, Obama was already wiretapping Trump Tower. This went on for more than a year and continued even after Obama left office in January of 2017, thanks to his army of little Deep State minions.

We also know that there was an Oval Office meeting with Barack Obama and Joe Biden in which the colluders laid out their plan to trick Gen. Mike Flynn into lying, so they could give their Russian collusion bulls*** the veneer of credibility. Obama was running the show – and he was running it to overthrow the results of the 2016 presidential election. If you don’t think that is treason, we’d be curious to know what dictionary you’re using.

Ever since he became the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lindsey Graham has been basking in the television limelight. You can probably quote him off the top of your head, because you’ve seen him so many times on Fox News programs proclaiming, “I’m gonna hold hearings and I’m gonna get to the bottom of all of this!”

Sixteen months later, Americans are still waiting for those hearings. Graham has finally announced a start date for his hearings: Sometime this summer.

Numerous anchors have now asked Graham the obvious question that we all want to know the answer to: “Great! When are you calling Obama to testify?”

Here’s Lindsey Graham’s latest answer:

“There’s a separation of powers issue here, and in over 200 years, we’ve never had a president called before the Congress — probably for a reason.”

Uh… Obama is not the president any longer. He’s a former president. And the reason why no president has been called to testify before Congress previously is because we’ve always had a peaceful transition of power that didn’t involve a coup attempt in our nation’s previous 200-plus years of existence. It might be unprecedented to call Obama to testify – but it is also unprecedented for an outgoing president to attempt to seditiously overturn an election.

Graham is also incorrect in his assertion that no president has ever been called to testify before Congress. Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and Gerald Ford all testified before Congress when they were in office. Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Harry Truman and Gerald Ford all testified before Congress after they left office – about scandals that happened while they were in office. Taft was called back to testify on 12 separate occasions before eight different congressional committees.

But Lindsey Graham won’t call Obama to testify about Obamagate. Here’s a solution.

President Trump can appoint his own Obamagate Committee. He can even call it the “Special Committee to Investigate the Obamagate Treason Scandal.” Trump can appoint his own members to it and make the hearings fully public, so the American people can watch the whole thing.

That wouldn’t be unprecedented, which Lindsey Graham worries about for some reason. George W. Bush appointed the 9-11 Commission and both he and then-Vice President Dick Cheney testified before the commission.

Ronald Reagan appointed the Tower Committee to investigate his own administration’s Iran-Contra scandal. Reagan himself testified in front of the committee. Anybody remember that?

The American people need lots of sunlight on the Obamagate scandal. We need accountability. A big, televised series of hearings in which the colluders are forced to testify would help us to restore some faith in the systems that Obama and his friends destroyed.
